Its intended pilot was Amuro Ray, an ace pilot who has been displaying Newtype powers in battle and as a result was overworking his RX-78-2 Gundam. The RX-78NT-1 Gundam "Alex" was developed by the Earth Federation Forces during the One Year War as a mobile suit specifically for Newtypes.
